Renewed focus

focus  [foh-kuhs]:  noun -  a central point, as of attraction, attention, or activity

What is the focal point of your life?  Family…work…wealth?  What defines who you are?  Do your actions support what you claim?

All too often we put on the coat of Christianity prior to going outside.  After all, we have to show everyone who we are, right?  Wrong.  We should never have to rely upon anything other than our actions to define who we are to others.  Our focus should be obvious to any observer, our intentions beyond that of any doubt.

Sunday afternoon, a day set aside by many to observe and honor God.  The staunchly pro-abortion President Obama steps forward, receiving a standing ovation from the crowd of 12,000 in attendance.  A commencement address is delivered, and Obama is given an honorary law degree from The University of Notre Dame.  The same University and law school with a mission statement that indicates the sacred value and identity of all those in the human race:

“The Center for Civil and Human Rights of the Notre Dame Law School is founded on the belief that the worth and dignity of every human being mirrors the image of God…”        (mission statement, emphasis added)

Are You Holy?

Does the recent assault on Christianity make you mad? Did you quit buying Newsweek after its recent cover story about the decline of Christianity in America? How does it feel to be labeled as a terrorist by Homeland Security?
I have listened to the ramblings of fellow Christians on the radio, television, and in person as they speak in utter disbelief over recent events. I’ve heard about the faith of our founding fathers and how they must be rolling over in their graves. I’ve listened to the recitation of weekly church schedules and how a sermon is never missed. I have listened to many Christians trying to prove their holiness to those they are speaking with on a daily basis.

Congratulations to Miss California!

The gossip world is abuzz regarding Miss California’s “inflammatory” remarks about gay marriage. Comments range from “sparks furor with gay marriage comment” to “you dumb bit@h”.  My, how interesting this age of new tolerance works!

I find it ironic that Perez Hilton asked a question that maybe he didn’t want to hear the answer to. Why ask someone what they think about a subject if you are not prepared to hear a response that resonates with your own? It’s fairly simple…agree with Mr. Hilton, and you have tolerance. Disagree with Mr. Hilton, and you have intolerance.  Hate filled speech is sure to follow, as evidenced by ever so eloquent remarks including “you dumb bit@h“. Oh how quickly tolerance goes out the window.

I for one would like to congratulate Miss California for her honest response.  It is refreshing to see someone standing firm in their faith and convictions regardless of political incorrectness.  I would also like to applaud her for standing firm in her faith of Jesus Christ (did I just say Jesus…how dare I!).  All too often responses are crafted to avoid offending others, cloaking truth in clever comments that are disingenuous to the responder.

Closet Christianity is what I term this type of response from those of faith.  Miss California sounded at first as if she was going to deliver a response characteristic of closet Christianity, but her faith won out.  You could say that she “came out of the closet”, so to speak.  Come to think of it, this should have made Mr. Hilton proud…
